The house was big, possibly the grandest house she has ever seen. The little girl held onto her mother’s hand tighter as they walked up the porch steps. Her mother looked down at her, trying to smile just before she ringed the doorbell. The little girl stepped back, her hand still clasping her mother’s hand, as a beautiful woman opened the door to the big house. The lady took one look at her mother and the purple bruise on her left eye before she wrapped her arms around her.
“I was so worried about you. When you called… -I didn’t even know what to think.” the lady said in a rush as the little girl watched her mother break down and cry for the very first time.
Madison Cooper-Torres let go of the little girl’s hand as she hugged back her best friend, Evangeline McIntire-Shepard. They haven’t seen each other in years but the bond that they shared was still as strong as ever. Eva led Maddie and her daughter to the living room and ordered the helper to get them drinks. Just as they were about to sit down, a little boy walked over to them, teddy bear in hand. He took one look at the guests and quickly hid behind Eva. “Who is she?” he whispered as he eyed the little girl warily.
Eva smiled at her only son before he nudged him forward, towards the little girl.
“Son, this is Michelle. Michelle, meet my son, Errole.”
